Dance - with Beth

Back again for my second January layout!

This time I tried to scrap more feminine, using some of the beautiful paper flowers and leaves.

But the most important part of this layout was the journaling. In saying that, journaling is the most important thing on almost all my layouts. Even if it is a simple who/why/where/when.

The journaling reads: When we moved from Erskine Park to St Clair, we were undecided about Kate changing schools. It was midway through year 1. We ended up leaving her at JEPS because she was involved in the junior dance group. She wasn't interested in doing things outside of school so we figured this was good for her. She loved performing he routine at the concert. 13 September 2013.

Thanks for stopping by and having a look at my creations this month!

Happy Birthday - with Beth

I hope everyone has had a fantastic Australia Day long weekend! I know I have! :)

For my first layout I decided to concentrate on using the Freckled Fawn resin triangles. I love them, they are so nice and thick and the colours are really nice, but I honestly had no idea how to use them!

So I built up my basic background, how my layout would look before embellishing. Then I just pushed the resin pieces around on my layout for a while until I settled upon their current configuration.

Before I delve into the materials list, I just want to say how cute and functional the mini pegs are! Check them out!

I'll see you back later for another layout! :)

Memories (and more) .. with Alz

Morning! It's Alz again with my last DT share for January.

So, I don't know about you, but in Melbourne we've been sweltering with 40+ degrees heat waves. On the one hand its perfect weather for staying inside to keep cool and scrapping. Yet at the same time life goes on and being out and about in the heat can totally zap you and leave you with little energy for scrapping whilst you are inside trying to stay cool LOL! Here's a little of what I've been creating when I have had some motivation and the air conditioning and ceiling fans have been working overtime ..

Apart from my usual mixed media and some chipboard (Christmas trees and title), everything on this layout is from the Just Add Paper Kit All That Glitters. I love, love, love this kit and must make a note to buy a few more of these kits for Christmas cards! Note to self .. buy at least another three to five of these kits for Christmas cards! LOL!!! The PVC doilies I inked with a gold ink pad and set aside to dry (once dry they didn't smudge!), and to tone down the brightness of the gold star pin I lightly spread some white paint on it (I wanted it to be a little more shabby and a little less glittery).

Because the Just Add Paper Kits are crammed full of products, I had more than enough left over to create an 8.5x11" page for my Favourites Journal. This is a Journal I started in 2011 which comprises weekly 'favourites' challenges. I got hopelessly behind with the weekly challenges and ended up throwing in the towel about half way. I'm determined to finish the Journal this year and will be renaming the front of it "2011 & 2014 Favourites" so fingers crossed you'll be seeing more of this style of scrapping from me in the future.

I do

Aside from the All That Glitters Just Add Paper kit I also used some white Gardenias which I sprayed with Glimmer Mist. If you don't have any white Paper Flowers in your stash you must get some as they 'take' mists, sprays, inks, pretty much anything really, really well. They are probably the most versatile product I have in my stash!

That's it from me today. I'll see you all again in February! Hope you're having a great start to 2014 as am I.

Cheers .. Alz   :)

Inspired by .. with Alz

Morning peoples!

I'm here with two layouts to share today. One was inspired by a challenge and the other by our one and only Karyn Schultz!

Up first is the layout I created for the December challenge at Show Us Your Stuff. The challenge required the use of the word "joy" (its in my journaling) and a handmade embellishment which, let's face it, is pretty simple if you're a D-lish Scraps devotee!!

Look at this

Yep LOL, that's a double with multiple photos and no mixed media! Gasp!!! LOL! With the plethora of fun and funky embellishments in store though, not all my layouts need to be complicated or require much other than the photos and 'some' embellishing.

Amongst that "plethora of fun and funky embellishments in store" I've used .. Freckled Fawn Wood Chips (Hearts), Freckled Fawn Paper Clips (Arrows), Paper Flowers (Bitty Blooms), Washi TapeCotton Twine, a Flair ButtonResin Flowers (Forget Me Nots), Paper Doilies, clear Motex Tape, and Journal Its by Star (Saying Tickets White, Round & Rounds Brights, and Mixed Ticket Tabs).

My next layout was inspired by our very own Karyn Schultz and her Christmas layout which was featured on the D-lish Scraps blog HERE. I was completely taken by the volume of white space on Karyn's layout combined with the amount of layering and embellishing she had done. Her general layout design, the ink splatters and a border of sorts, clearly also drew me in.

Life is good

On this layout I've used .. Skipping 5 Puffy Things (Woodgrain Hearts), Paper Flowers (Bitty Blooms), red and black Motex TapePaper Doilies (including 5.5" Red Polka Dot), Freckled Fawn Wood Chips (Hearts and Arrows), Freckled Fawn Paper Clips (Arrows), Washi Tape, a Flair ButtonCotton Twine, a small Vellum Bag, and Journal Its by Star (Round & Rounds Brights, Saying Tickets White, Bubble Words, Ho Ho Ho Strips White).

Thanks for the inspiration Karyn!! See you all again tomorrow.   :)

Focussing on Freckled Fawn

One of the hottest scrapping products on the market are wood veneers/chips. My personal favourites are the ones released by Freckled Fawn and luckily for me (LOL), Amanda stocks quite a variety of Freckled Fawn Wood Chips in store.
I luvs you mum

I love the versatility of wood chips/veneers. You can leave them raw, ink them, paint them, stamp on them, spritz them with ink, add glossy accents to them, heat emboss them; pretty much anything you can think of can be done to them! I created the above layout for a challenge that required the showcasing of one of three 'on trend' scrapbooking embellishments and as you can tell LOL, I went with wood chips.

I stamped and coloured in with a black marker the Freckled Fawn Birds; I inked the Speech Bubbles with distress ink; I painted the Frame (Remember) with white acrylic paint and then sanded the edges to distress it; I used the Stars & Such as part of my background so they got white washed with the rest of my mixed media background; and finally, I left the Arrows raw. Other than the alphas for my title, my mixed media background, and black Motex Tape, I've used no other embellishments, its all just Freckled Fawn Wood Chips. Cool huh?!

A quick reminder though that D-lish Scraps doesn't just stock Freckled Fawn's Wood Chips! In store you'll also find Freckled Fawn Dew DropsFiligree Rhinestone StickersPaper ClipsResin Shapes and Wood Veneer Tags.

I'm off to play with some Freckled Fawn goodies. I hope you have a fabulous day and I look forward to chatting with you tomorrow. Oh and if you've done something different or fabulous with wood chips/veneers, please leave a comment letting me know as I'm always on the lookout for new techniques to add to my arsenal!!!

Cheers .. Alz   :)

Working with D-lish Scraps embellishments

The reason I applied to be on the D-lish Scraps Design Team is because I love working with the embellishments Amanda stocks. The fact that a lot of them are handmade really appeals to me because I have always been the type of scrapper who likes things to be a little different to the norm.

Over the years I've participated in more handmade embellishment swaps than I can count LOL, but one thing I've always struggled with when it comes to using those handmade embellishments, is altering them to suit my purpose. It may be something as simple as spraying them with a coloured ink or I may go as far as actually pulling the embellishment apart, which to me feels like sacrilege. I mean someone put a lot of time and effort into making something by hand so who am I to come along and alter (or pull apart!) their embellishment? But which is better? To not use the embellishment at all, or to alter it to suit your needs? I've finally come to the realisation that altering handmade embellishments is actually a 'good thing' (for want of a better choice of words!) in that I love the embellishment so much I want to make it work and that I am inspired by the embellishment.

Here is an example of a layout I have created with D-lish Scraps embellishments which I have altered and pulled apart ..

Pooped Puppy

I created this layout for November's 123 challenge, which required the use of the colour teal. I had recently received some teal Bellah Blooms Canvas Flowers in my DT pack and was keen to use them, but I had two problems. One was that they were too dark for the tone of teal I wanted to work with; and secondly, the large pearl in the centre of the flower didn't suit the overall theme and style of my layout. I easily altered the colour by spraying the flowers with Dylusions White Linen ink spray and I figured I could easily remove the pearl centres and replace them with buttons. Wrong! LOL! Those pearls were stuck on like nobody's business and it seemed like it was going to take a bit of brute force on my behalf to get those little babies off! Once I had removed the pearl centre from one of the flowers, and it was worth the effort, I figured I'd have no problems with the second flower. That was until the whole flower started unravelling. "Oh no!", it was starting to look like I was going to have to re-stitch the entire flower. "Oh no!" indeed LOL! But as the flower unravelled I realised what a beautiful scallop border it made and suddenly I knew I wasn't going to be doing any re-stitching and that what I had (by mistake!!) ended up with was a flower that co-ordinated beautifully with a scallop border. I have other Bellah Blooms Canvas Flowers in my D-lish Scraps stash and you can bet that I'll be using them like this again!!!

Oh and one more thing, with the Carnival Tickets don't forget to flip them over to see the reverse. On this layout the fine print on the reverse of the tickets suited my layout far more than the actual front!

Another layout I recently created with D-lish Scraps embellishments where I played around with how to use my embellishments was one I created with the Out to Sea Just Add Paper Kit ..

Little trooper

The Out to Sea Just Add Paper Kit came with the cutest, tiny jars of minuscule sequins. As adorable as they were, I'm trying (not always successfully) to reduce the bulk on my layouts. Where once my layouts were as lumpy bumpy as they come (and then some!), these days as I use more and more mixed media in my scrapping for some reason I'm trying to, as I've said, reduce the bulkiness of my layouts. So I didn't want to put the jar on my layout (although with a handwritten note rolled up and tucked inside for journaling, it would make a sensational 'message in a bottle' embellishment perfect for the theme of the kit!!) but I wanted to use the sequins. I had thought to just pop a few on here or there but these sequins were tiny! Then I thought I could use some Glossy Accents to make blobs and make mini clusters of sequins. Thing is, when I scattered the sequins over the Glossy Accents blobs they looked fantastic en masse and in the end with the assistance of some more carefully (but randomly) placed Glossy Accents my jar of sequins was empty. I love the textural element using the sequins this way has added to my layout!! Oh and although ever so slightly fiddly, I did end up using some of those sequins singularly!!

I also altered ever so slightly, one of the embellishments in the Out to Sea kit. In the top right hand corner of my layout you can see a round journaling spot with red and white rope around the border. I added the red with a marker to help it stand out amongst my embellishment cluster. If you purchased the kit and ended up not using that journaling spot with the other embellishments in the kit it would look fabulous coloured with other colours to coordinate with other layouts. I also altered the plain chipboard ship's wheel with Dylusions Black Marble ink spray and Glossy Accents but I think we're all pretty much familiar with that technique!

Other embellishments I could have altered, though didn't were the pearl starfish and the metal anchor charm. Either of these embellishments could have been easily altered with say, alcohol or permanent inks, copic markers, paint, pretty much anything. In this instance I left the pearl starfish their original colour as I needed their splashes of cream to lighten my layout and my anchor charm was perfect for my layout just the way it was.

I hope that seeing how I've used some of the D-lish Scraps embellishments either by altering them or thinking outside the box a little inspires you to perhaps take a second look at the embellishments in your stash and the embellishments sold in store.

See you tomorrow!!

Cheers .. Alz   :)

All That Glitters part 2 - with Karyn

Hi D-Lish lovelies!!

It's Karyn here again with my last share for the month!

This year I have just loved using gold on my Christmas pages, and gold with white is just stunning! The December Just Add Paper kit at D-lish Scraps is called "All that glitters" and is perfect for your Christmas Scrapbook, SMASH* or Project Life pages.

This page in my Holiday SMASH* book was plain white (very unusual for a SMASH* page actually) so I used strips of the gold washi tape (from the All That Glitters kit) to cover sections of the middle of the page. The photos on the page show when our Elves packed the school lunches - too funny! Tomato sauce, an onion and a lemon were not a hit with Jessica and the tomatoes, salt and baking powder were "not funny" in Rachael's opinion lol

I've layered a small velum bagshipping tag and some twine from the kit underneath the photos. I then added 2 of the doilies and the strip of scalloped gold glitter card (also from the kit). I embellished the smaller pvc doilie with the bow, a flower, and flair from the kit.
I added a  Freckled Fawn wood chips speech bubble and birdie, and used my Motex tape writer and yellow tape to add some words to the photos.
I sprinkled some gold star mini sequins (from the kit) across the page then glued them to the page with Crystal Effects and using a Clever Sequin Pick-up Pencil to place the sequins. I used some of the gold glitter canvas tape in the kit to create a banner at the top of the page and also on the tag.
Finally I added a gold numeral Thicker from my stash and I also used a Pebbles roller date stamp.

All that Glitters - with Karyn!

Hi D-Lish lovelies!!

It's Karyn here again with another SMASH* page for you today!

Have you used the Just Add Paper kits yet? Each kit includes a heap of yummy embellishments for you to use on your Scrapbook, SMASH* or Project Life pages. They come out monthly and are only $10 (Australian)! On this Christmas SMASH* page I've used the "All that Glitters" kit which has lots of gorgeous gold embellishments as well as the yummy PVC doilie you can see at the top!

The photos on the page are of our Elf antics - very cheeky aren't they!! I've kept this page reasonably simple showcasing the gorgeous red SMASH* page in the background with the pretty white flourish, as well as the fun kit and my adorable photos of course.

Once I had decided on my photo placement I added a small velum bagshipping tag and some twine from the kit. I then layered 2 of the doilies and the strip of scalloped gold glitter card (also from the kit).
I then embellished with the bow, flowers, flair and gold dots. And I added some strips of gold washi along the top and bottom of the page (yes, all from the kit)!
Finally I added a gold numeral Thicker, some red alphas and stickers and used a roller date stamp - all from my stash.

Our Elf on the Shelf - with Karyn!

Hello D-lish Lovelies!

I'ts Karyn here today with some SMASH* pages to share with you.

I love documenting the adventures of our two Elf on the Shelf's in my Christmas SMASH* book. On these 2 pages/days the Elves went racing on our reindeers and made some paper snowflakes! My daughters just loved getting up each morning and seeing what new activity the Elves were trying out!
I've used a heap of fun D-Lish Scraps goodies on these pages. On the LH page I've added a gold paper doilie, a small velum bagFreckled Fawn wood chips hearts and arrow, and white star mini sequins. I scatter the mini sequins across the page then dot glue next to them, then I use a Clever Sequin Pick-up Pencil to place the sequins on the glue - easy.
I also added some die cuts; a journalling tag and used some stamps
On the RH page I've used more fun D-Lish Scraps goodies. I've added another gold paper doilie, shipping taga white bitty blooms, a micros feathers (sprayed with red Colorshine), Freckled Fawn dew drops gold arrow and silver arrow paperclip, a Christmas journal spot and red Hand dyed muslin.
I also added die cuts, used some stamps and a roller date stamp, and I added some twine and enamel dots from my stash.

Share with Sophie {Spring}

Hi guys, I'm back!
For this layout I chose to feature some gorgeous paper roses. I have always loved the effect of clustering roses and other paper flowers, so I headed to the store and got myself some to play with.

I used this scollop chipboard piece which made arranging the flowers around my photo a lot easier as I had a shape to base my design on.
My biggest tip when clustering flowers is to make sure you use a variety of sizes and colours. I have used roses from the mix packs and also purchased some medium pink ones.
For interest you could also use a different style of flower. I think the Bitty Blooms would go perfectly with any other type of flower.
To finish off, add embellishments of a different material such as resins, buttons or whatever else you can find.

I really love how this turned out. I especially love the colour palette. I have been using orange on a lot of my layouts recently, I think because it is such a bright, happy colour which is perfect for the season.

Share with Sophie {The Biscuit}

Hi everyone,
My first share of the month is a fresh, summery layout using some colourful products from the D-lish Scraps store.
For this layout I started by using some mists and an acrylic block to create my background. I then created a matte for my photos before embellishing with some D-lish Scraps products.
It was a super easy and quick layout to put together.
If you want a video or picture tutorial on my process please let me know in the comments.

My colour scheme was inspired by three tapes I recently got from the store. The orange, lime green and blue tapes will be linked below.
The palette can definitely be applied to both female and male layouts. I made it more girly and added some flowers and a heart shaped button.

I hope this has inspired you to scrap some of your summer photos. The weather is ideal for staying inside and scrapping at the moment. (Unless your room isn't air-conditioned like mine). The store has plenty of colourful embellishments that would perfectly compliment those pics.

I will be back tomorrow with some more ideas for you.

2nd Design team share with Kaitlynne

Hello again!

Kaitlynne here again to share with you another 8.5x11 layout. I'm still trying to catch up on last years 52 weeks album so I've scrapped a lot in this size recently.
How do I create a Layout???
Here is a quick outline of how I stick it all down.
As a starting point for a layout I pick the 2 main colours in the photo I want to use and go from there. I then choose the papers I want to use and then set out all my D-Lish embellies that coordinate to choose from.
This layout was Orange and Teal.
As you can see I use other shades of these colours but I find it a great starting point, and if in doubt I usually add black or white to balance it out.
I start here and decide the basic layout design. This can be the lengthy part of a layout so sometimes I just stick it down and move on.
For this layout, I wasn't happy with one colour so to tone it down in a few spots I covered it washi tape in a lighter colour.
Once the basic lay-out is decided I choose my embellishments to form my clusters.
For the chipboard word I painted it with thick Revlon Nail polish and then dipped in fine glitter dust and sealed it with 3D gloss.
I almost always put my journaling on last. Its not that its an after thought but I like to be free to write what I like without being restricted if I only leave a small space.
For this page I wrote directly onto a wood veneer tag that I covered in Washi tape. I also added some clear Motex tape over thin Washi so it stood out.
Not much to it when you piece it together in 3 steps.
To complete this page I have used the following D-Lish goodies:
So that's how I piece together a layout, super easy with D-Lish goodies! Thanks for stopping by and I shall see you all next month.
Happy creating.

January design team share with Kaitlynne

Hi there D-Lish Scrappers!
Kaitlynne here to share a quick 8.5x11 layout I've created with some D-Lish goodies.

Lots of bright fun embellishments for a quick layout!
Here is the complete layout:
For the background I used some of my homemade mist to create a watercolour background.
To get this layout done quickly I used a sketch I found on Pinterest for the main structure of the layout and then embellished with a few brightly coloured D-Lish goodies.
For this layout, I used:
(a layout to me isn't complete without washi!)
Layouts don't always have to take a lot of time to put together or cost a lot with pricey embellishments. Most of my favourite embellies from D-Lish are only $1.00!! Most with more than one in a pack it makes scrapping more affordable than ever.
I will be back over the next couple days to share another creation, stay tuned!
Thanks for stopping by.
